The brain is a wonderful organ. It starts working the moment you get up in the morning and does not stop until you get into the office.

Hello beautiful people. Work is kinda so so, dont know how to do, and i keep needing to redo my simulations cuz things change from day to day. indonesia is not supplying singapore sand so i need to re-calculate all the different types of materials that can be used in new buildings in the future. BoRiNg. dont think i'm very good at my job.
Anyhoo, mum got a promotion! hopefully that means more monies. I really should start listening to what she tells me to do. She just threw me afew books to read i guess i shouldnt second guess her. Since no one wants to buy our house, we're thinking of redoing the whole house. Not sure what the budget is, but its a big house, and it needs aLOT of work. we're thinking maybe after its done and if someone wants to buy it we might sell, but its hard to find such space and location with the price we will get. I like this house very much, dont want to live anywhere else. I'm next to ben/mj/tharin/xiaoling/wg/tianli. wah everyone is so near. I'm thinking of adding a roof to cover 1/2 the garden so it can be like bila bali like, can chill outside at night and drink poker, put the projector outside. so many dreams, not sure if there is enough funds to fuel it.
Painted 1 wall in my room, tried to be artistic but it doesnt really look nice, sad, but there are 4 more walls to go. Still waiting for my employment pass, with every day that passes by i feel as if my chances of getting one is slipping away. I really really want to be able to treat u guys with my first pay check, to mark a new era.
I'm still deciding which path in life to take. Now that i'm working in nus i keep thinking that i might end up as an academic. Dr Kelvin Tan or Professor Kelvin Tan. Sounds nice, but extra 5 years of research and studying doesnt sound too appealing. I'd like to work for a big firm but seems like my resumes sent are shredded.
Wah didnt know i typed so much already, so much on my mind. I'm still deciding what to do with my salary if i do get one. How much to give to mum, how much to give to bro, how much to save, how much to spend, how much to invest. aiyooooo, but at least i dont have to ask for money with my tail between my feet anymore. Whats a good amount to give to parents? do you guys give your parents some %?
I'm thinking.. hmm
10% Give mum
15% Food/transport
7% Tax (not sure how much)
13% CPF
50% Save and invest
15% Expenses
-----
100%

I really need to start becoming frugal. I should be spending in proportion to what i'm earning, so at the moment in not earning anything so i guess i shouldnt be spending? oh well. damn 2am. need to wake up early. so much to say and think about, so little time.
Oh EAT MORE GRAPES, they've been found to give the same effect as red wine on health/vitality.
To good health and much love my fellow beautiful people, nothing else matters much

guys please change to the new google log in instead of the old blogger log in.. cause u might experience prob if u tryna blog using the old 1..thx
ya tian. basically my job is to come up with guidelines for building design in singapore. Before all buildings are built, they have to comply with the guidelines i help to impose.(singapore wants to make these guidelines tigher but doesnt know how tight to make it)
Singapore wants to become a more energy efficient country as it lags FAR behind other developed countries. We emit tons and tons of CO2. Bad. So the government wants to make buildings more energy efficient. To do this research is needed. this is where i come in. I take the parameters of buildings like the windows, wall materials, glass shade, etc and calculate roughly how much electricity will be consumed by the building per annum.
Yes if you want to save energy at home in your house, TINT YOUR WINDOWS OR GET CURTAINS. 50% of your aircon energy is spent removing heat from your house. and 50% of that 50% is from light coming in from your windows.
So yes, as per all researchers my hard work will be printed out and presented to a board of people in the building authority, their bosses will be happy, present it to the government, government happy with the bosses, government present to public, public happy with government.
But the most important thing is, at the moment WORK ROCKS!

andreas cant make it back for the party cuz he is officially employed and starts work this week, cant take leave right after you start work so he wont be here :(
on the same topic, i went for an interview this morning at the japanese embassy. no im not trying to work at the embassy (although i wouldn't mind), its a teaching job in japan.
i actually enjoyed the interview, the interviewers were nice; even the security guards and cleaning lady were really sweet. i just hope and pray very hard that i did well enough to secure one of the vacancies.
we'll see in one month's time.

hmmm... for daryl? yea... it's fine... then regarding the party...
1. those who has access to duty free, should buy hard liquor/wine/champange. yes. so, anderas, me, jen, can choose 2-3 bottles of each kind. therefore, we'll definately save heaps as tax on these 3 are usually the highest. compared to beer..
2. the rest of us, would then have to divide up the task of buying utensils, mixers, food. is food supposed to be included? i guess the utensils and mixers can be determined the night b4, or on the day itself. NTUC wouldn't become a defunct company. not in my opinion.
3. payment to ben. i believe this is the most important at the moment. EVRYONE, should pay ben BEFORE the thing. it'll be easier to pay him first to ease the payment of the food, liquor, utensils etc etc later on (the day after the party). worst case is that we confuse everything as there's cross payments to be made.
4. Friends, should not be allowed. freeloading is not very nice. even if they don't freeload, this party is about US, not them. when on earth did they ever become part of the group? simply, no blogger access, no invite!
5. spitting the bill shouldn't be a problem again. add, then divide (that's why outside friend shouldn't be invited. difficult to tell them what it'll cost. imagine being wacked with a $100 bill at the end of the day!). furthermore, as we want to keep the bill to the minimum as possible, we SHOULD, buy the expensive stuff duty free. and don't buy in excess. no point buying like 5 bottles of wisky when it's impossible to finish it!
6. MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL, i think we have to take a GROUP PHOTO. we don't have 1 FULL group photo! it's about time!

Friends or Friend-less?
Yes this is our private little party to toast to our tenth-year friendship (even though we ALL know that's just an excuse to get mingjun and yourselves bubble over with 'high-ness' since it coincides with his birthday) so the question is: Do we invite our party friends too? The planning committee has defined the term 'friends' as those people we've already met or at least heard of their names so you wont be stuck spending the entire night entertaining them instead of having fun yourself.
So then the next thing is that everyone bring a little something something which by that the planning committee means a bottle or a pack or if you really must, then bring an entire keg. it's up to you. but we do need mixers and water and soft drinks and all that. we'll figure out how to split the bill. anyone has any bright ideas?
and so kelvin tan, please bring your poker set and cards. we'll be needing it!
one last thing, we each gotta split the cost of the room and so if you have any enquiries,
ASK BEN!
he's the overall person in charge since he's the one with the most time on his hands! thanks ben! :)
other little details we'll fill you guys in time to come. so long for now and see you at the paaartaay!
